About Jason

Jason James Jensen was killed August 16, 2006 - the 4th day of his junior year of High School in a tragic car accident caused by another driver on his way home from Red Mountain High School Golf Practice. Jason was 16.
Jason, a member of the team since he was a freshman, was one of the top junior golfers in the state, ranking #7 in the state and #147 in the country in the 2008 graduating class at the time of his death. Jason had a USGA handicap index of 0.0, an accomplishment he was very proud of. He won numerous tournaments over the years including the 2005 Southwest Section state Junior Championship. He was a past champion of the Ping Jr. Match Play, Phoenix Metro Jr. Championship, Yuma City Championship, Thunderbird Jr. Classic, the Santa Claus Classic, The J.-Jr. Pick a Partner, and an 11 time winner on the Southwest Section’s Antigua PGA Junior Tour. Jason was the 1999 Augusta Ranch Junior Champion and he played on two Quintero Cup Teams. He played with Woody Austin in the 2000 John Deere Classic Pro-Am when he was 10 years old. He also qualified for the 2004 First Tee Open at Pebble Beach where he played with Champions Tour member Jose Maria Canizares - a highlight of his golfing career.

Jason’s most memorable quality was the passion to help with Junior Golf at Viewpoint Golf Resort where he was a participant in their junior clinics from 1999 through 2004 and an instructor in 2005 and 2006. When Jason was not workin with other juniors, you could find him on the weekends on one of their par threes where he selflessly raised money to support the program. Jason also worked in Player Services at Viewpoint.

A warming smile was Jason’s biggest attribute and he is missed by his family and friends the most. A friend remembers him as “golf’s smiling angel” who will always be floating down the fairway of his favorite golf course.
